If you’ve ever wondered how well you actually brush your teeth, you’re in luck. Philips just released a new electric toothbrush that provides real-time feedback and personalized coaching via smartphone app. Think of it like a personal trainer that critiques your brushing as opposed to your push-ups!
Dr. Darian Hampton of The Hamptons Family & Cosmetic Dentistry in Carrollton, TX shares the details of the new toothbrush here.
Special Features of the Sonicare DiamondClean Smart Sonic Toothbrush
The Philips Sonicare DiamondClean Smart Sonic Toothbrush, which hit the market a few months ago, is a very special toothbrush. Sonic technology uses quick sweeping motions to drive fluid into the tight spaces of the teeth that a normal or electric toothbrush may miss. The DiamondClean boasts up to 31,000 brush strokes per minute and has five different cleaning modes: regular clean, white, polish, gum care and sensitive.
In addition to top-of-the-line sonic technology, the DiamondClean is designed for an interactive experience. Users download a special iPhone or Android app and sync up their toothbrush (which has sensors on the brush heads) with their smartphone.
When hooked up through the smartphone app, the toothbrush can:
- Time brushing to ensure the entire mouth is adequately covered
- Offer feedback about brushing
- Guide users through a customized brushing routine
- Collect data about brushing routines and track it over time
Another popular feature of the toothbrush is that the app displays a three-dimensional map of the mouth, identifying commonly missed areas and offering tips for varying pressure in specific areas.
The DiamondClean is also available with four unique brush heads: plaque control, gum care, whitening and fresh breath. The best brushing routine for each automatically queues up when the brush head is attached. The app keeps track of the number of sessions left on a brush head before it loses its effectiveness and needs to be replaced.
After brushing, the toothbrush can be charged through a special (included) glass cup, which doubles as a rinsing cup and has a base that connects to an outlet. One full charge lasts approximately two weeks.
The hope is that the toothbrush’s feedback can help refine the user’s brushing technique for cleaner, healthier teeth. The DiamondClean may also motivate tech-savvy brushers to get excited about their oral hygiene!
The Sonicare DiamondClean Smart Toothbrush is sold by Amazon, Walmart and other retailers. Customers can choose a package that comes with two, three or four brush heads. Each set also comes with a travel case, USB cable for on-the-go charging and caps for the brush heads.
