3 Concerns You May Be Embarrassed to Tell Your Dentist — But Should Anyway

Concerns to Discuss with your dentist Dr. Darian Hampton realizes that you may have oral health concerns that you are embarrassed to discuss with him. However, the only way he can help resolve your dental concerns is if he knows about them. Don’t keep your oral health concerns a secret any longer. The sooner you let us know about them, the sooner we can address them. The following are some oral health concerns that patients should discuss with Dr. Hampton right away.

#1: I constantly have bad breath.

Bad breath, or halitosis, can be embarrassing, but it can also be an indication of a larger health problem that needs to be addressed. Often, the solution to bad breath is as simple as using a tongue scraper or a toothbrush to brush the tongue, where bacteria tends to form. Other times, bad breath is an indication of gum disease, which should be treated right away.

#2: I suffer from an eating disorder.

At the Hamptons Family and Cosmetic Dentistry, we genuinely care about our patients’ overall wellbeing. If you suffer from an eating disorder, such as bulimia, we want to help you find proper treatment, so you can lead a healthier, happier life. In addition, we can often tell when patients suffer from bulimia anyway because the effects are obvious on the backside of the teeth. Stomach acid erodes the tooth enamel on the backside of the teeth, causing it to become thin and translucent. If left undiagnosed, bulimia can be life threatening, so we want to make sure that anyone suffering from the eating disorder gets the proper medical help they need.

#3: I am ashamed of my smile.

We are sensitive to our patients’ concerns about the appearance of their smiles. We know that missing teeth or having a decaying front tooth can be embarrassing. However, we offer a range of cosmetic and restorative dentistry treatment options that can improve your smile in less time than you may think. If you are ashamed of your smile, let us know, and we can suggest treatment options to restore a healthy smile that you can be proud of.
